The Catholic University of America (CUA) and Standard Solar have completed the Washington metropolitan region’s largest urban community solar array on the University’s campus in northeast D.C.
The 7.5-megawatt project will provide access to locally generated, renewable energy through the D.C. community solar program to D.C. residents and the university.
Generating approximately 10,000 megawatt-hours of solar energy annually, the project will make a significant contribution to the district’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2032 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Community solar increases access to the benefits of solar by allowing even more to participate in the clean energy revolution, particularly U.S. electricity consumers that don’t have the option to install a solar array on their roof or property.
Pepco-DC account holders can become subscribers to the CUA Community Solar Project and purchase portions of their solar power from the array. Subscribers will enjoy financial savings and sustainable benefits of the solar array without any upfront installation costs or ongoing maintenance needs. First kWh to be delivered Spring/Summer 2023.
According to a recent article in The Washington Post, in order to ‘electrify everything’ the country is going to need a lot more electrical experts. Solar projects like this one bring jobs, including electricians, to the community and region — the partners on this project are hiring.
